This is about how to get paid to write articles for use online. It is a much easier market to break into than writing for traditional paper magazines. In fact, if you can write even halfway decently you can probably make money online by the end of the week.
That may seem like a bold claim, but it really isn't. The truth is that although you most likely won;t make much money, you can make some in a matter of days. One way to do that is to write for blogs that pay you for posts. These aren't even full articles.
For example, I recently checked out a blog that offered to pay for posts. I wrote something about some political issue. I really don't recall what it was about, but I do remember that it took me about fifteen minutes and it was only about four paragraphs. I sent it to the blog master and an hour later he had deposited $8 in my PayPal account. Not great pay, and I make more working on my own sites, but if a person needed cash they might wrote a dozen posts like that in a matter of four o five hours.
To find blogs like this, search "paid to post" or "pay for your posts" or something similar in Google or another search engine. There are usually a few of these around. You also can directly approach owners of blogs with samples of your writing and offer your services.
Elance.com and other sites like it offer a place for people to post there projects and writers to bid on the work. This isn't a bad idea if you write fast, but be aware that the competition is pretty intense. I currently buy 500-word articles for $11 each (I only have time now for a thousand pages of my own material each year). Hopefully the author is getting $8 of that (I buy from a service) and writing them in less than 45 minutes.
There are places that sell articles for as much as $40 each, and seem to be getting it. The difference is quality. These are still short articles, as is typical online - maybe 600 or 700 words. If you write well and can knock off an eight to ten paragraph article in less than an hour, you might want to consider directly approaching owners of websites that obviously prefer higher quality articles.
My favorite way to get paid to write articles is to give them away in free article directories. How do I make money doing that? They all have a link to one of my websites, where I get paid for advertising or I sell my own ebooks. The advantage of this method is that there is nobody to say no to your articles. You write about anything that interests you and have links to your site. If readers like what you write they visit and you make some money. That's the primary method covered in my ebook, which is advertised below.
